Secure PERA Announces 2026 Election Endorsements

Secure PERA is pleased to announce our endorsements for the 2026 election.

The decisions made by Colorado’s Governor, State Treasurer and General Assembly have a direct impact on PERA and the retirement security of Colorado’s public employees and retirees. Secure PERA supports candidates who understand the importance of a strong, sustainable retirement system and the commitments Colorado has made to the people who have dedicated their careers to public service.

For 2026, Secure PERA is endorsing candidates in statewide and legislative races across Colorado. Our endorsements include longtime legislative allies as well as new candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to understanding PERA, listening to public employees and retirees, and protecting the retirement security they have earned.

Statewide Endorsements

Phil Weiser for Governor
In seeking Secure PERA’s endorsement, Weiser made a clear commitment to protecting PERA as a defined benefit for current and future public employees and opposing efforts to reduce retirement benefits. He also committed to opposing attempts to use PERA contributions or retiree benefits to balance the state budget, recognizing that doing so can undermine both retirement security and the system’s long-term financial health.

We appreciate his recognition that PERA represents a commitment Colorado has made to its public employees and retirees and his pledge to protect that commitment as Governor.

Jeff Bridges for State Treasurer
Jeff Bridges brings significant experience with PERA through his service on the Joint Budget Committee and is himself a 10-year PERA member. On the JBC, he worked to restore the state’s annual payment to PERA and has emphasized that the state must uphold its share of the commitments made under the 2018 reforms.

The State Treasurer serves on the PERA Board of Trustees, giving the office an important role in overseeing the system. Bridges has identified PERA’s long-term financial health, transparency, disciplined risk management and clear communication with members as priorities he would bring to the Board. He has also committed to working closely with Secure PERA, employee and retiree organizations, employers and other stakeholders on issues affecting the system.

Secure PERA’s endorsed candidates come from different communities and bring different experiences to public service, but they share an understanding that Colorado’s public employees and retirees deserve a strong and secure retirement system.  Some have worked alongside us for years and have demonstrated their support through their records in the General Assembly. Others are new candidates who took the time to engage with Secure PERA, learn about the system and the people it serves, and demonstrate a commitment to protecting retirement security. We appreciate every candidate who engaged with Secure PERA during this endorsement process and especially those who have committed to keeping PERA strong for current employees, retirees and future generations of Colorado public servants.

Secure PERA is proud to support these candidates in the 2026 election and looks forward to working with them to protect the retirement security Colorado’s public employees have earned.
